Edinburgh's Toy Story

Children of all ages can escape this summer, with a season of blockbuster movies including Shrek Forever and the eagerly anticipated Toy Story 3.

Whatever the ending for the toys in the movies, be it Buzz Lightyear or an ever so cuddly effigy of Shrek, shops around Edinburgh city centre have something for everyone. Our favorites include the famous Hamleys of London in Jenners, Princes Street or Early Learning Centre and John Lewis in the St James Centre for colourful creations.  Alternatively try revisiting a bygone era at Past Times on Frederick Street, which holds lovely vintage pieces.

If you are feeling sorry Woody as Andy grows out of having him as sidekick, head to ethical store Seesaw, who offer a unique re-loved toys service. The innovative idea compounds the Broughton Street’s store’s eco credentials, which include a no plastic pledge and a range of traditional cloth nappies.

Speaking about the toy service owner Julie Slater commented:”Our shop opened six years ago and for about a year we have been offering a re-loved toys service, where members of the public can bring in unwanted quality toys which we buy and sell in the shop. It’s really taken off, especially as people are becoming more aware that they can pass on their cherished toys for other children to enjoy.”

As an added bonus Seesaw are currently having a closing down sale, before the move to a new premises in Stockbridge next month.  Check out www.seesawtoys.co.uk for more details.
